2 июля 1900 толпы людей,живущих в городе,собрались,чтобы посмотреть,как первый дирижабль цеппелин поднимется в воздух.подобные дирижабли были уже около 50 лет,но цеппелин был первый дирижабль со специальной конструкцией,что позволяло ему передвигаться быстрее ,чем те,построенные до.изобретателем цеппелин-был граф фердинанд фон цеппелин.в 1910 году дирижабль дучленд стал первым коммерческим дирижаблем в мире.к началу первой мировой войны в 1914 году, дирижабли передвигались на 172000 км. и переносили 34000 пассажиров в  полной безопасности.
