1. I suppose that moral values are more important for the development of humankind. The sponsor of the Prizes Inamori has criticized modern culture for ignoring our emotional and spiritual development and feels that more recognition should be given to those who work for the common good. Although nowadays we are rushing ahead with scientific and technological achievements, understanding of our emotional and psychological development lags behind badly.
2. In my opinion, it is a good suggestion to award people of different professions the same prize. Every November, three winners of the Kyoto Prizes receive a diploma, a gold watch and 50 million yen. I think though these prizes are the same ones, they are equally useful and necessary for scientists, philosophers and even filmmakers.
3. I think that the British computer scientist Berners-Li should be awarded by the Kyoto award. He is the graduate of Oxford, the expert in the field of computer technologies. Berners- Li offered the global hypertext project which laid the foundation to creation of a world wide web in 1989. Since 1994 he’s been heading the Consortium of a world wide web which is responsible for standards on the Internet. One more remarkable scientist, who is worth this award, is the biologist and the physician Tang Vo Dean. He invented some diagnosing devices (in particular, the optical scanner), capable to find damages of DNA.
