    nowadays television is the main branch of mass media. it appeared much later than newspapers, magazines and radio. the first tv set was constructed in our country not so long ago - it happened in 1949.

    the majority of people watch tv just to relax or to learn some sporting events, to enjoy a good film. recent events or fresh information are reported over the television. so, people turn on the russia or ntv channel to be informed about the latest russian, european and world news.

    there is one interesting question. why do teenagers so much time in front of the television screen instead of walking, viziting friends or learning something? it absolutely clear that watching tv for many hours is bad for your eyes.

    it is an absurd idea that television makes you its slave, but some friends of mine are sometimes so attracted to the screen that they don't do their homework till night. some of them even fail their tests because they watch tv too much, or choose to spend a fine day glued to the rest, rather than go for walks. that's why only a small part of my free time is given to television.

    in my opinion tv is a great force. we must watch television to be well informed.

    большинство людей смотрят телепередачи исключительно для того, чтобы отдохнуть и узнать спортивные новости, насладиться хорошим фильмом. информацию о только что произошедших событиях всегда по телевидению. поэтому зрители включают канал "россия" или "нтв", чтобы узнать последние новости в россии, европе и мире.

    существует один интересный вопрос. почему подростки проводят так много времени перед телеэкраном, вместо того чтобы погулять, сходить в гости к друзьям или выучить что-нибудь? абсолютно ясно, что многочасовое сидение у телевизора портит зрение.

    мысль о том, что телевидение порабощает человека, - абсурдна, но некоторые мои друзья подчас так увлекаются, что до самой ночи не садятся за . некоторые из них даже не в состоянии написать текст, так как смотрели телевизор, или предпочтут провести хороший денек, глядя в "ящик", нежели пойти погулять. вот почему лишь небольшую часть своего свободного времени я посвящаю телевидению.

    на мой взгляд, телевидение - огромная сила. мы должны смотреть телепередачи, чтобы владеть информацией.

thanks for your last letter! on the topic of holidays in russia, i can tell you that christmas is not as popular in russia as it is in britain. instead, we celebrate new year's eve more fervently here.

is it true that you celebrate christmas on december 25th? here we celebrate it on the january 7th. it is traditionally celebrated by religious believers, whereas i heard that in britain people of all faiths and even atheists celebrate christmas too. am i right?

my favourite holiday is new year's eve, as we put up a fir tree and have a big meal on this day and meet up with friends or relatives. other holidays we celebrate include women's day, men's day and victory day. we also celebrate the start of spring for one whole week and we call this time 'maslenitsa'. what do you call the day when you celebrate the beginning of lent by making pancakes? write back soon, sasha

if i were the minister of transport of england i wouldnt be really sad because situation in our country is quite good. not as, for example, in moscow with its overloaded roads. but there are still some unsolved problems left. the first and probably most serious problem is a quality of roads in some parts of england. of course the repairing of all these roads would take a plenty of money but i think that its worth it. this project would also have a big plus giving many jobs for the locals. i would also increase a size of a penalties for driving drunk. this reform has two good sides. first if it helps it will be perfect anyway. second if it wont help, well, at least money will get to the right hands. i would also try to reduce an amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. i would do more co-called "days without cars" and would cooperate with engineers about inventing a hydrogen fuel. and the final thing i would do is the enjoying of a huge salary. ))
