it was ten o'clock at night. eddie was tired and hungry. he spent the last five hours talking to the company's senior managers. he realized that he would have to resign from his job, and also that was facing the possibility of going to prison. six months ago, everything was fine. he had a wonderful job and he made a lot of money. then he met some people who advised him badly. they gave him a list of companies and told him to buy their shares. he had to use the company's money to do this. at first the shares were rising, so he bought some more. everything seemed so easy. then the stock market crashed and he lost everything. eddie telephoned his wife before leaving the office. he apologized for not phoning earlier, explaining that he had a difficult meeting. "you sound upset. anything wrong happened? " she asked. "i’ll tell you about it if you want when i get back," he replied.

my favourite sport

i think all people have their favourite sport. i love playing football. it is a fantastic game!

when i was a little boy, my dad took me to football matches that were held in our city. we went to support our home team. later i started playing football with other boys in the yard and now i play in our school team. there are a few reasons why i love football. firstly, this game keeps us active and fit. it is important to be able to run fast and think quickly. secondly, it requires little equipment. in fact you can start a game if there are a few players, a ball and a flat open area to play. football can be played in yards, parks, school sportgrounds and stadiums. thirdly, this game is easy to learn. it is not just about kicking the ball. i had to learn to pass, receive and control the ball while dodging opponents and to shoot the ball into the goal net in order to score a goal. fourthly, every football match is unpredictable and it brings so many different emotions to football players and their fans. the fifth reason is that football teaches you to be a true team player and to collaborate with your teammates.

i do not think that i will become a professional footballer, but i will always enjoy playing football with my friends.
